We are pleased to share joyful news with our parish and school community. Bishop David J. Bonnar has announced the appointment of Reverend Brian Smith as Administrator Pastor of Saint John the Baptist Basilica and St. Peter Parish, effective April 10, 2026.
We extend a heartfelt and enthusiastic welcome to Rev. Smith as he begins this new chapter of leadership and service within our faith community. His appointment marks an exciting moment for our parish, and we look forward to the spiritual guidance, compassion, and dedication he will bring to both Saint John the Baptist Basilica and St. Peter Parish.
As a community rooted in faith, unity, and service, we are grateful for the continued leadership of our Diocese and the opportunity to grow together under Rev. Smith’s pastoral care.

Rev. Brian Smith, born February 4, 1986, in Massillon, Ohio, is a priest of the Diocese of Youngstown with a strong background in education, ministry, and service to diverse communities. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Romance Languages from the University of Notre Dame and has experience teaching both in the United States and abroad, including in Chile.
He completed his seminary formation at The Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, where he was actively involved in youth and Hispanic ministry. Ordained on June 19, 2021, Fr. Smith has served in several important roles, including Parochial Vicar, Diocesan Director of Continuing Education of the Clergy, and Director of Hispanic Ministry.
Throughout his ministry, he has responded generously to pastoral needs across the Diocese, serving multiple parish communities in Northeast Ohio. Known for his love of languages, music, and cooking, Fr. Smith brings a dynamic and culturally rich perspective to his priestly vocation.
